A fine example of an early and primitive stone carving from Jajarkot region of Western Nepal. Statues with this position of the crossed arms, in sitting, with knees bent, are well documented in art books. Statues quite similar to this one are present in many Museum Collections. ( notably ref “Masques et Statues de l’Himalaya” ) where they are referred to as “Divinites Protectrices” – literally “Protective Deities”
